I have had dozens of office desks in my various jobs over the last decade plus. I started out at a young age in the antique business and, you guessed it, I had many antique desks in that period of my life. While most of them were basically functional, as the information age increased the use of computers, the practicality of such older pieces diminished. In my current IT business, there is no way I could operate at one of those old office desks. Their sharp edges, minimal leg room and fragility would just be too much to deal with on long work days I often face.

The concept of what executive office chairs should look and feel like has evolved dramatically over the last twenty years. This shift in perception of what chairs should be has largely to do with massive computer integration in every office and changing of roles for most executives. Many years ago, an executive was someone who simply performed the smallest amount of work for the largest sum of pay. Now, executives are expected to be hands on in all aspects of work they oversee and they must be able to step in and take over a task if necessary. That means more time seated in front of their computer which is why executive office chairs have had to integrate more ergonomic function with their form.

When it comes to getting your office set just how you want it, obviously the most important items are your office chair and desk. But after that, it is the little office accessories that make a huge difference as well. I’m not talking about paper clips and staples. What I’m referring to is items like monitor arms that allow you to set your computer screen at the optimum angle and height for you. Another handy little widget is an ergonomic footrest, because it seems no matter how tall or short one is and how adjustable the height of one’s chair is, it is impossible to get one’s legs into the ideal resting position without a little help. As I said, it is these small items that can make a huge difference in how you feel while working.

No matter how ergonomically correct and basically comfortable an office chair you use in front of your office desk, you will likely become a little uncomfortable sitting there for a long duration. At the very least, even if you aren’t physically worn out from remaining in your office chair for long periods, stress can wear you down. You might be wise to do what so many already have by adding a reclining chair to your office as a place to destress. Modern reclining chairs are fairly compact, so even if you don’t have a huge expanse to place it in, there will be enough room.

I had a look at the office furniture section in my local department store the other day for a new office chair. While I wasn’t expecting to find top grade chairs at bargain prices, I have to say that I was still unimpressed with what was offered. Rather than finding mid grade chairs at prices on par with the quality, there were nothing but total junk chairs at rather high prices. After that disappointing experience I decided to use my favorite price comparison tool, the internet, to see what bargains could be had from more legitimate furniture sellers. Even on the internet, I did find a few sellers trying to pull a fast one customers in terms of pricing, but overall the prices were better and the quality higher than I found in the department store.

No one wants to feel like a stuffy old man when working with their other high level coworkers (even if they are all stuffy old men). The proactive hands on approach to being in an executive position that was developed in the information technology boom of the nineties and early 2000′s has spread throughout corporate structures of many other businesses. This attitude even extends to the type of furniture used in high level meeting rooms. Conference tables and boardroom chairs must now have an active look and feel to reflect the changing corporate climate.

I absolutely never overpay for office chairs the way many people do. Of course, that is because all of the chairs in my humble office were acquired for free from others who were discarding them. I can’t say I recommend this to everyone, as the chairs tend to have typical wear and tear. In my case, it’s not a huge issue because I don’t have many clients actually visiting me (I work in IT). For most businesses though, my method would be unacceptable. When looking to buy office chairs sale prices are the only way to avoid getting ripped off. That is unless one opts to get their new office chairs online where the prices are always lower and more sale like.

I walked into my nearest office supply store the other day and browsed the furniture section. While I know that this type of store doesn’t really specialize in office furniture, I was still surprised at how pitiful their selection was and that their prices were nothing short of outrageous. After my in person office furniture outing, I went home and ran a few internet searches for what I was most interested in, which were black leather office chairs. I have to say that the results were refreshing when compared to my local store experience. The quality available ranged from low end all the way to magnificent designer pieces. One aspect remained the same throughout though, the prices were reasonable.

I’ve ordered office chairs many times online and while the wait for delivery usually isn’t too bad, there have been occasions on which I wish I had much quicker service. Next day office chairs delivery takes care of exactly that circumstance. Having a chair arrive in a week or so doesn’t matter to me, when it’s for my home office that only sees part time use. But, when I have employees fidgeting around in old worn operators chairs and accomplishing less than they could in a work day, with more fatigue, I need replacements right away. Having the ability to get replacement chairs in rapidly on short notice is perfect for taking care of the situation.

I can definitely see why more and more people are opting to upgrade to executive office furniture when refurnishing their office. Sure, it is cheaper initially to just replace fiberboard furniture with more of the same, but the life of said replacement pieces will be the same as that which was replaced. In other words, one will end up replacing their office furniture many times over, as poor quality pieces deteriorate rapidly. By opting for even entry level executive office furniture, high quality is assured and the pieces will last for many years. Ultimately, top notch office furniture becomes cheaper than bargain items.
